Manoj Jhalani, 1987 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer and additional secretary in the ministry of health and family welfare, has been designated as the Mission Director of the Government of Indias ambitious health insurance programme, Ayushman Bharat. This assignment will be in addition to Jhalanis role as the additional secretary in the ministry. Ayushman Bharat, popularly called Modicare, was a budget announcement that aims to provide 10 crore poor families with Rs 5 lakh as an annual health cover. This will be a mega Centre-State collaborative insurance programme under which the states will have to contribute 40% of the cost. Here are more about the IAS officer who will spearhead the ambitious programme: 1. Manoj Jhalani, 55, is an additional secretary-ranked officer in the ministry of health and family welfare. 2. He has been serving as Mission Director of National Health Mission. 3. Jhalani has been in the health ministry since March 2012, first as joint secretary till July 2017 before getting elevated as additional secretary. 4. Originally belonging to Rajasthan, Jhalani is a 1987 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS. 5. In Madhya Pradesh, he served as the principal secretary in the department of school education before joining the union ministry of health and family welfare. 6. Earlier, he was the collector in a number of districts including Ratlam, Jhabua and also Bilaspur (Bilaspur is in Chhattisgarh, a state that was a part of Madhya Pradesh till 2000). 7. The officer also completed a short basic course on WTO and the new trade regime in New Delhis Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT). 8.
