Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, an IAS Officer of Gujarat Cadre, (1986), took over as Chairman, Airports Authority of India, today.
Mr. Mohapatra has worked extensively in the power sector, urban development and industry, where he was involved in comprehensive reforms in the power sector and restructuring of the erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board into several commercial entities.
He has rich and varied experience in the chemicals and fertilizers sector, as he has worked as the Managing Director of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd. (GACL) and Managing Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company Limited (GNFC).
He worked as a Municipal Commissioner in Surat from 1999 to 2002, during which he was actively involved in the process of converting Surat into one of the models of urban governance with its thrust on Solid Waste Management, quality infrastructure and sound financial management.
He also worked as a Municipal Commissioner in Ahmedabad for more than 3 years, during which he was instrumental in developing such iconic projects such as Sabarmati Riverfront, BRTS, Kankaria Lakefront and Heritage Promotion.
Prior to joining AAI, he worked as a Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce in Government of India.
Dr. Guru Prasad Mohapatra, IAS serves as the Managing Director of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. and as Commissioner of Transport, Government of Gujarat. Dr.Mohapatra served as the Managing Director of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) from November 6, 2006 to July 18, 2011. He served as Managing Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited from July 2009 to July 15, 2010. Dr.Mohapatra has a long stint in development and regulatory administration as District Development Officer of Surendranagar, as Collector and District Magistrate of Junagadh and Rajkot, as Municipal Commissioner of Surat, as Special Commissioner (Enforcement) in Sales Tax Department. He serves as a Senior Officer of Indian Administration Service (IAS) of 1986 batch. He serves as the Chairman of Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. He serves as the Chairman at Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (UGVCL). He serves as the Chairman of Airports Authority of India. He serves as a Director of Gujarat Chemicals Port Terminal Company Limited, Paschim Gujarat vij Company Ltd. (PGVCL), Gujarat Guardian Ltd., Gujarat Alumina And Bauxite Ltd., Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Co. Ltd. , Bhavnagar Energy Co. Ltd. and Dow – GACL Solventure Ltd. He serves as a Member (Administration) in Erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board, GEB, (presently Gujarat UrjaVikas Nigam Ltd.). He served as Non Executive Director of Gujarat Industries Power Co. Ltd., since January 10, 2007 until August 9, 2011. He served as Director of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) from November 6, 2006 to July 18, 2011. He served as a Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited from August 2009 to July 15, 2010. He served as a Director of Vishal Malleables Ltd. Dr.Mohapatra holds an M.A. in Political Science and M. Phil in Diplomacy (International Relation) and an M.B.A.
