It does many functions, such as bile\u00a0secretion, filtering toxins, redistributing nutrients and producing digestive\u00a0enzymes, keeping track of the bodys energy demands, releasing glucose as\u00a0needed, storage and elimination<\/p>\n<p>Lots of work. Right\u00a0 ? HELLO\u00a0\u00a0 ! \u00a0\u00a0Were just getting started here\u00a0\u00a0 !!!<\/p>\n<p>For the liver\u00a0 , the to-do list is long and is only second \u00a0to that of the brain and number of functions \u00a0are \u00a0well over 300 items. But do we really give attention to this hardworking and humble \u00a0part of our body that it deserves?<br \/>\nLiver diseases accounts for approximately 2 million deaths per year worldwide,\u00a0 1 million due to complications of cirrhosis and 1 million due to viral hepatitis\u00a0and hepatocellular carcinoma.<\/p>\n<p>Cirrhosis is currently the 11th most common cause of death globally and liver\u00a0cancer is the 16th leading cause of death; combined, they account for 3.5% of\u00a0all deaths worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol-use disorders are on the rise and are at risk of alcohol-associated liver\u00a0disease.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 2 billion adults are obese or overweight and over\u00a0400 million have diabetes; both of which are risk factors for non-alcoholic\u00a0fatty liver disease and hepato-cellular carcinoma.<\/p>\n<p>The global prevalence of viral hepatitis remains high, while drug-induced liver\u00a0injury continues to increase as a major cause of acute hepatitis.<\/p>\n<p>Liver \u00a0transplantation is the second most common solid organ transplantation\u00a0 undertaken\u00a0 however presently \u00a0less than 10% of global transplantation needs are being \u00a0met.\u00a0<br \/>\n<u>Source:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/30266282\">https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/30266282<\/a>, European Association\u00a0for the Study of the Liver.
